Internships -  An internship is a temporary position with an emphasis on on-the-job training rather than merely employment, and it can be paid or unpaid.

Apprenticeships - Apprenticeship is a combination of on-the-job training (OJT) and related classroom instruction under the supervision of a journey-level craft person or trade professional in which workers learn the practical and theoretical aspects of a highly skilled occupation.
After completing an apprenticeship program, the worker's journey-level status provides an additional benefit of nationwide mobility at journey level scale.

How to get started

There are several ways to get started in the franchised automobile business…..

(1) Talk to your local dealers.  Dealerships are always interested in visiting with potential future employees, from junior high students on up.  Many dealers offer a chance to try out the business through cooperative education programs, internships, job shadowing, or part-time and summer jobs.

You'll also find that many dealers are ready to help you finance your education through scholarships and other forms of financial assistance such as a student loan repayment plan.  They can also give you something even more important:  Insight into how to launch your own success story in their exciting, dynamic and rewarding industry.

(2) Check out schools with automotive programs.  Go to the high school and post secondary school page of this website for a complete listing of schools that offer automotive programs.

(3) Talk with your school guidance or career counselor to learn more about entering this exciting field.

(4) Check out the Transportation Center of Excellence for more information on entering the automotive field..
